I did it again.
As did I.
It's 2012 for a scant few more days, then a gentle, unavoidable segue into 2013. I began this blog back in 2004 and continued through 2007, which, if one wished to be specific, means I blogged for three-ish years and then took a five-ish year hiatus.
Funny thing, a hiatus. Nothing ever really stops during one. It's kind of a misnomer, I suppose, that one can take any kind of hiatus from anything at all. Because we always carry a bit of what we were, what we did, what we wished for, into the days that that somehow tumble, roll and, in general, landslide into what - only in hindsight - is "the hiatus."
And then we stop. At the bottom of the hill, the edge of the valley, the final stretch of both coarse and silky sand, mixed with shell fragments and seaweed even as the rolling surf slides and pauses and yawns its way to the shoreline.
And we wonder.
Did anything change? Did we lose something precious? Did life take a break from itself even as written words slowed and the impatience to record, ponder, and wrap passions in a bit of gauzy remembrance began to fade?
I'm not sure.
I do know one combined truth.
I blinked. They grew.
Here we go again.
